March 27th saw the opening of the exhibition ‘Re-emergent’ by Paul Swan at The Arthouse, Stradbally, Co. Laois The opening was a huge success. Many were in attendance, with local and national visitors and also some special guests including the Right Reverend Michael Burrows, Bishop of Cashel and Ossary, and Reverend Peter Tarleton – Rector of the parish in which Paul was Artist in Residence – who officially opened the show after an introduction by Muireann Ní Chonaill, Laois Arts Officer .

‘Re-emergent’ is a multi media exhibition showing at the Arthouse, Stradbally, between 27th March & 17th April. It features the work of Paul Swan – made during his Artist’s Residency, in the Killeshin Union of Parishes, based in the Rectory Maidenhead – with paintings, photographs and a short audio-visual piece.

All works are available to purchase. Price lists can be obtained from The Arthouse.

‘Re-emergent’ is a multi media exhibition showing at the Arthouse, Stradbally, between 27th March & 17th April.   It features the work of Paul Swan – made during his Artist’s Residency, in the Killeshin Union of Parishes, based in the Rectory Maidenhead – with paintings, photographs and a short audio-visual piece.

The exhibition will be opened by the Reverend Peter Tarleton – Rector of the Parish and instigator of the Residency – at 1.30pm on Thursday, 27th March. Light refreshments will be available.

Paul Swan was born & trained in the UK – showing work in London & the North of England.  In 1990 he became permanently resident in Ireland, showing in Dublin galleries, the RHA, the Boyle Arts Festival & Government buildings.  Also selling work in auction with Whytes of Molesworth St.

Laois Filmmaker wins Dingle International Film Festival Audience Award

This year’s Audience Award at the Dingle Film Festival goes to ‘Waiting for you’. The film was selected from 51 shorts as the winner of the prestigious award.

The film is directed by filmmaker Lisa Fingleton originally from Stradbally, Co. Laois. Lisa says she is delighted to win the award. “I was really touched by the reaction to the film. Everyone seemed to be laughing and crying at the same time and so many people came up to us afterwards and thanked us for making the film”.

The film is an intimate and brave documentary spanning five years of the filmmakers journey through the rollercoaster world of fertility and farming.

Lisa recently exhibited at ‘Work from Middle’ at the Arthouse in Stradbally.

“Work From Middle” – Exhibition Opening

On February 27 the opening of the “Work from Middle” exhibition took place at the Laois Arthouse, Stradbally, Co. Laois.
Many were in attendance including some of the artists of the exhibit, the resident artists of The Laois Arthouse, the local community, the arts officer Muireann Ni Chonaill and also Councilor James Daly.

The opening began with Muireann Ni Chonaill introducing the exhibition and the artists that were involved.

The exhibition will be shown at the Laois Arthouse, Stradbally, Co Laois from 27th February at 1.30pm until 20th March from 1pm-4pm daily (Monday-Friday), or outside those hours by special request.

The Laois Arthouse comprises of Studios, Apartments, an Exhibition Space, Rehearsal Space, Kiln, Garden, digital facilities and a public library. An Artists-in-Residence scheme is funded through the Department of the Environment, Percent for Art Scheme.
